Cowboys Defeat Gators 40-0 for District Championship

Tulio Martinez

Tonight the Gaither Cowboys (7-0) played the Land O’ Lakes Gators (1-6) in a Class 6A District 6 matchup for their homecoming game.  The Cowboys came in with a perfect record and did not let the Gators change that.  Gaither dominated the game, shutting out the Gators, 40-0, securing their title as district champions.

The Cowboys started their domination fast, scoring early in the first quarter with a 29-yard touchdown pass to receiver Drelin “Speedy” Pittman followed up by a good PAT.  Pittman would score his second TD later on in the game with a 9-yard reception.  Running back Chance Coleman scored two Cowboy touchdowns, his first on a 20-yard run and later on an 84-yard run.  Receiver Jeff Duclos got a 29-yard TD reception of his own and Korey Williams caught the sixth TD of the game.  This gave Gaither a 40-0 lead, and quarterback Tony Bartalo’s third TD pass of the game.

Thanks to the running clock, the second half was quiet and quick, even though both teams had some solid drives.  Gaither ended the night with their seventh win in a row.  They have now secured their spot at the top of the district.

Next week, the Gaither Cowboys will travel to Tampa Bay Tech (5-2) next week to take on the Titans.
