Gaither Cowboys take the win against Armwood with a score of 17-10 in dedication to Ryan, a boy who is battling with cancer. This was a big game for Gather having lost to Armwood in past seasons.
It was a close game between the two teams, with it being tied 7-7 after Armwood intercepted a pass from Kiael Kelly, which later turned into a touchdown. The Cowboys scored from a pass from the QB Kiael Kelly to WR Jayden Mendez.
In the second quarter, the boys took the lead after RB Ricky Parks earns a touchdown with a 25-yard run and Julian Gonzalez kicks a successful field goal, setting the score 14-7 Cowboys.
Tawfiq Thomas, who made an amount of amazing defensive plays on the field, intercepts a pass from Armwood QB, which leads to points for Gaither as Gonzalez makes a 22-yard attempt field goal and takes a 17-7 lead.
Armwood slipped through Gaither’s fingers, in the third quarter, and makes the run down to the end zone, but is brought back due to a penalty. Armwood then makes a field goal with Gaither still in the lead 17-10.
Some of Gaither’s players definitely took the hit tonight. Drelin “Speedy” Pittman was injured on the field twice and Jean Duclos injured his right arm and unfortunately had to wear a sling for the rest of the game.
In the final play of the game, with 30 seconds left, Armwood failed to block Gaither, which resulted in the ball getting knocked in the air out of Armwood’s QB and into the hands of Tawfiq Thomas with another amazing pick to end the game with a score of 17-10 Gaither.
Gaither stands strong with a 6 game winning streak and ranked 1st in Florida Division 6A.
