The National Football League’s championship game, the Super Bowl, is the most watched sporting event in the United States and the entire world.

This year, Super Bowl 54 will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2 in Miami.

The teams competing this year will be the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. This is the Chiefs’ first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years and the first appearance in seven years for the 49ers.

Each team had to make it through the playoffs and win their conference championship to make it to the big game.

The 49ers had to beat the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers to win the National Football Conference. The Chiefs had to beat the Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans to win the American Football Conference.

The Super Bowl also includes a performance during halftime that has become a huge tradition. This year, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez will perform. Pop-singer Demi Lovato will sing the national anthem prior to the start of the game.

“I love watching the super bowl for all the drama that goes on during the parties and the games,” freshman Brenden Wheeler said.
