Cowboy Football’s 2019 stat leaders and stand out players

The Gaither Cowboys’ 2019 football season was a season of dreams. They finished their season with a 10-2 record, making it all the way to the FHSAA State Semifinals, where they lost against the Escambia Gators.

Over the entire season, Gaither scored a total of 66 touchdowns, racking up a total of 475 points from them. Gaither also collected 4,987 offensive yards this with 3,362 receiving and 1,358 rushing.

The Cowboys broke records and made school history. This was the first regional championship for Gaither, and their first time making it to state semifinals. 

The following players played key roles in securing the historic season for the Cowboys.

  • Tony Bartalo, Quarterback

Bartalo threw for a total of 3194 yards throughout the whole season in 345 attempts getting 45 touchdown passes.

“My favorite part of the season was our win versus Clearwater, and coming back in the 4th quarter was awesome,” said Bartalo.

  • Deveon Knighton, Wide Receiver

Knighton collected a total of 862 receiving yards in 65 attempts throughout the games he played. 

  • Drelin “Speedy” Pittman

Pittman got 853 yards in receiving and 14 yards in rushing this season. He led the team in receiving yards this season.

  • Hunter Mintzer, Safety and Kicker

Mintzer finished with 76 solo tackles and 121 total tackles in 13 games played. He had the most tackles for the team this season. Mintzer also had three interceptions.  

  • Sammie Lee, Strong Safety

Lee finished with 44 solo tackles and 85 total tackles this season.

  • Cowboy Defense

had a total of 960 tackles, 50 sacks,14 interceptions, and 15 fumble recoveries.
