The hashtags #lightsforlife and #coronakindness have been trending on social media as people around the globe put up their Christmas lights to spread cheer during quarantine.

Social distancing has had the hearts of many down so in an attempt to lighten the community’s mood, Christmas light displays, big and small, are being put up everywhere. Some have even put up their trees again.

Gaither High School student, Cyenna Ison liked the idea of the new Christmas light trend because it spreads happiness throughout the world.

“If you’re going to do something to keep you entertained you might as well spread positivity,” said Ison.

The trend caught the most traction on social media platforms like Twitter.

Steve Neumann tweeted “#lightsforlife Great idea. But I just took down my entire setup display 2 weeks ago LOL! Guess I’ll put them all up now!”

Another tweeter, Shannon Texter, tweeted “Prayer is the biggest bridge between panic and peace. #lightsforlife.”

It is unclear who started the trend according to People magazine but many have been promoting it through social media and commercials.

“If you’re going to do something to keep you entertained you might as well spread positivity,” said Ison.
