Last night, the Gaither Cowboys fell to neighborhood rival Steinbrenner Warriors in a very competitive 1-3 loss at home.

The first two innings were quiet for the Warriors, thanks to great fielding and sophomore pitcher for the Cowboys Austin Grause. Grause collected six strikeouts on the evening, before being replaced by senior Roy Peguero in the top of the sixth.

Steinbrenner was able to score twice in the third after third baseman Willie Jackson overthrew first base, giving the two Warrior baserunners the chance to cross home plate. Gaither got on the board shortly after by Derek Crum’s RBI: a double off the center field wall, allowing outfielder Jordan Williams to score. The Warriors collected an RBI of their own in the fifth inning.

The game ended with a questionable strike called in a critical two-out situation, leaving two Cowboys on base and giving the game to the Warriors. Cowboy fans and players alike were very vocal about their opinions of the call.

Gaither was unable to push back and heads into their next game against Middleton with a 2-2 record.
