Chorus at Gaither has always been a huge program for students. The award-winning group recently left our beloved school to represent Gaither at a nationwide competition. Students performed at the Youth Chorus Festival sponsored by The Barbershop Harmony Society in Costa Masa, California.

Gaither competed alongside 19 other schools and groups from all over the nation. All groups had to submit an audition application in order to be one of 19 groups in attendance.

“I’m very confident in our pieces, the kids are killing it. We’ve been practicing for this since the beginning of October,” said Debbie Cleveland, chorus director, before their departure.

The group consisted of 56 students preforming three pieces all from the movie Grease, including ‘Summer Nights’, ‘Hopelessly Devoted’, and ‘Greased Lightning’.

Julian Bolta, junior, and Raegan Stauffer, senior, were both chosen by a well-known choreographer from Toronto, Erin Howden, who helped with the routines to coincide with the musical numbers.

“From what I’ve been told, the crowd is very engaged in the performance because that’s their type of music, they’re all musicians. I’m just so excited for that crowd’s feel and energy,” said Bolta in anticipation for the event.

Gaither’s chorus received a superior rating, as well as won the title of Audience’s Favorite.

Gaither congratulates these outstanding students on receiving this opportunity of a lifetime and putting on a spectacular performance.
