A once in a life time opportunity has come to Gaither High School. A total of 11 orchestra students have been chosen to play with the famous dancing violinist Lindsey Stirling. They have been chosen to play with her on her album and live on stage.

Stirling has been searching across Florida for a special group of high school orchestra students to play with her on stage and with her on her album. Gaither students were suggested to her management after a clinic at Disney World.

“While we were at Disney, the clinician, who conducted us, was specifically told by Lindsey Stirling’s stage manager that when a good orchestra came across those that were worthy of Lindsey’s playing to let her know. So the clinician called the stage manager for Lindsey and said ‘we found the school’. Literally the next day, I got a call from Lindsey’s stage manager at 9 a.m. saying ‘I need eight of your students and you need to audition them, send the audition recordings and we’ll send you the music.’ It came out of nowhere, but it was an opportunity that led to an opportunity,” said Andrea Szarowicz, the orchestra director.

The students that were chosen to play with Lindsey Stirling were Devon Guice, Lia Holloway, Kristen Lockhart, Ari Barraco, Gabby Andre, Meng Chen, Shawn Nash and Cassidy Ward. The alternates include Leilanie Roberts, Emma Price and Ellise Wilson. They were very surprised that she wanted to play with students from different high schools.

“I was surprised that she wanted to perform with Gaither High School because I never thought that she would pick high schoolers to play with her,” said Meng Chen, senior.

Stirling will be performing Nov.24 at the Straz Center.
