Gaither High School’s new media specialist, Mrs. Guerra has joined Gaither High School staff and is looking forward to the new year.

Guerra moved to Tampa about two months ago knowing that she wanted to be a media specialist. Before moving to Florida, she lived in Texas teaching 5th graders at an elementary school.

Guerra’s Master’s Degree was in educational technology and libraries are going digital so Guerra thought a great use of her expertise would be to introduce high school students and teachers to a library experience enhanced through the use of technology. The school she thought was her best fit was Gaither.

Guerra has nothing but good things to say about her experience so far at Gaither.

“I really like [Gaither]! The students have been awesome, the staff and faculty are amazing and they’ve been very welcoming! I’ve had no problems; I’m really enjoying it! And I think as I get to know everyone a little bit better and people know me a little bit better, hopefully we’ll see how the media center can provide more for students and teachers.”

This is Guerra’s first year as a media specialist. She is very excited to help the students and teachers at Gaither High School.

“I’m a Google-certified educator and I’m also a Microsoft innovative educator so I know how to use all of the Google tools and I know how to use all the Microsoft tools. I know how to help both students and teachers so if people want more on how to use this to make student life easier and professional life easier, I’m the girl to come to for that.”

Guerra has many recommendations of books students would find enjoyable.

“Everything on the Florida Teen Reads administrators choose the top 15 books that have been published in the most recent year and the library has multiple copies of all of them.”

Guerra has read most of the books she recommends.

The Geeks Guide to Unrequited Love’ is probably my favorite at the moment but I haven’t been able to finish all of them yet. So I hate to say that that’s my favorite… [but] I’m a nerd and, you know, I work in a library!”

When asked her favorite author, she didn’t hesitate to respond.
