The Future Medical Professionals club is a new club at Gaither that brings together students who are interested in the medical field and wish to explore what it has to offer.

“The club is about getting kids interested and aware of the opportunities in the medical field. People in the medical field may include dentistry, paramedics or firefighters,” said the club sponsor Debbie Hirth.

One of the students in the club hopes that other students will be able to gain more experience and knowledge about the field they’re interested in.

“My hope is that students will be able to gain more experience within the medical field and gain an insight of what it’s actually like to be in the medical field,” said Sarah Palmer, junior.

While you’re in the club, you have opportunities to gain volunteer hours by volunteering at hospitals or other services.

“We’re going to have multiple volunteer opportunities, not just on hospital levels but also the community. We want to do the coastal cleanup to show that as a club we care about the community around us. Some hospitals we might volunteer at would be St. Jude’s or any hospitals in the area,” said Hirth.

The club also provides fun ways to get outside and help the community.

“We’re going to have a fun run in October to raise money for any awareness like the Breast Cancer Awareness or the Diabetes Awareness. Most of the proceeds are going to the club so we can raise money to go to the Bone Museum in Orlando,” said Hirth.

To get students more interested in the field they want to go into, the Future Medical Professionals club are bringing in people from universities to talk about the field they’re in.

“We also have speakers to come in to help us tell kids what the right thing to do is, what they wished they could’ve done better, some things they’ve seen so far and some first-hand accounts,” said Hirth.

This club offers quality times to spend with friends and a chance to experience the medical field like never before.
