On October 28th, there was a memorial ceremony held for Gaither alumni Christopher Sanfeliz who was killed in the Pulse Night Club shooting in June 2016. During the ceremony  J.P. Morgan and his family donated $32,000 to the Gaither Marching Cowboys.

Sanfeliz was part of the GHS Marching Cowboys and played the saxophone and tuba.

“I thought this was good but also was sad because it shouldn’t have happened” said Gaither freshman and cousin of Sanfeliz, Angelina Alonso

Sanfeliz is described by his family as a person who loved to help people whenever he could and would always try to do so.

“I think he would have liked it because of the outcome and how many people it will help” said Alonso.

Sanfeliz was a honor student and went on to graduate from Hillsborough community college and worked for J.P. Morgan bank. In addition to the donation, the bank also donated towards the family taking charter buses to Sanfeliz’s funeral.

The Sanfeliz family keeps his memory alive by getting together to share their fondest memories, and gave out  pins made for him. Alonso and fellow freshman Sarah Petrylka  both keep a memorial prayer card with them at all times so they always have something to remember him by. His family is also planning a party with all different types of his favorite food: macaroni and cheese.

Sanfeliz was 24 and would have been turning 25 on November 17th.. He may not be here now but the family always feels he is with them.

“He’s now our angel up above,” Alonso says.

The Sanfeliz’s always feel he is watching over them “He is up there watching over us shining bright like a diamond,” says Alonso.
