Ariana Grande’s new single “thank you, next” has become an instant smash hit, breaking the YouTube record for Most Watched Video in Under 24 Hours and featuring over 825,000 people viewing the video live.

Grande began posting pictures on her Instagram teasing about an upcoming video about two weeks prior to the video’s release. An official teaser trailer came out a week before the video, followed by the video’s release on Dec. 1.

After a rough time in the public eye regarding Grande’s past relationships with rapper Big Sean, late rapper Mac Miller, former dancer Ricky Alvarez and recent ex-fiancé Pete Davidson, Grande dedicated the song to learning from the past and moving on with your life, focusing around the idea of self-love.

The music video has early 2000s vibes, recreating four of the most popular movies of the decade, including “Mean Girls”, “13 Going on 30”, “Bring It On” and “Legally Blonde”. The entire video is star-studded, including some of the cast from Grande’s breakout show “Victorious”. Former co-stars Daniella Monet, Elizabeth Gilles and Matt Bennet are in the video, as well as pregnant YouTuber Colleen Ballinger known for her character Miranda Sings, singer Troye Sivan and YouTuber Gabi Demartino, who is known for trying to behave like Grande. Other surprise cameos include Jonathan Bennett and Stefanie Drummond from Mean Girls, Jennifer Coolidge from Legally Blonde and even Kris Jenner playing the “cool mom”.

The response to the video has been extremely positive, and stars from the original movies have even reached out on social media to thank and support Grande. Reese Witherspoon, who played Elle Woods in “Legally Blonde”, even tweeted Grande a side by side photo of Witherspoon and Grande as Woods, using the caption “Thank you, next” and the hashtag #ElleWoodsForever. She also tweeted “Can we please talk about @ArianaGrande’s Bend and Snap?! 10/10 nailed it!”.
