8D music, or “traveling” music is a new trend among sound enthusiasts. 8D audio alters the sound of a song so that the music appears to be traveling around your head as you listen to it, moving continually from ear to ear.

The name derives from the fact that 8D audio allows the listener to hear their music from eight different directions. Rather than evenly distributing the music between both the right and left headphone or speaker, 8D music periodically switches which headphone the sound comes through, fading in between the two to create the illusion of the sound traveling.

When first listening, it is best to use headphones and have the volume as high as you are comfortable with. Searching “8D” with your favorite artist or song name on YouTube will likely pull up a variety of results. It is important to note that 8D and 3D are not the same, and will sound different.

The sound of the music makes it seem like there are speakers on either side of the room you’re in. The sound encompasses you, creating the feeling of attending a live concert and hearing the music aloud around you.

Some of the best songs to listen to in 8D are “Habits” by Tove Lo, “the 1” by blackbear, “Lucid Dreams” by Juice World, “Lovely” by Billie Eilish and Khalid, “thank you, next” by Ariana Grande, “Jocelyn Flores” by XXXTENTACION and “Better Now” by Post Malone.

It should also be noted that while the music may not seem loud when you are listening, it is typically a lot louder than you might think. It is important to make sure you listen to 8D audio at an appropriate volume to avoid causing damage to your ears.
