‘Sierra Burgess Is a Loser’ Is a Winner on Netflix

Netflix’s recent release of the new movie “Sierra Burgess is a Loser” has been one of the streaming service’s most publicized flicks.

The movie is about a young high school girl named Sierra Burgess (Shannon Purser), whose phone number is given to a boy (Noah Centineo) by a school bully (Kristine Froseth). Thinking that the number belongs to bully Veronica (Froseth), the boy Jamey (Centineo) and Sierra start to talk and begin to form a relationship.

Veronica later becomes friends with Sierra and helps her build a relationship with Jamey as Veronica, but Sierra won’t be able to hide behind a screen forever. In short, Sierra catfishes Jamey as Veronica with her permission.

Purser has been cast in many popular shows like “Stranger Things” as Barbra “Barb” Holland and “Riverdale” as Ethel Muggs, but she has never been cast in a lead role until now. She did an excellent job portraying the typical “girl next door”, and now that she has had her first lead role we can expect to see her on screen much more.

Centineo has also been a very popular star on the rise lately. He played Jesus in “The Fosters” and Peter Kavinsky in ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”. He was also a child star in a few Disney shows and movies like “Austin and Ally” and “How to Build a Better Boy”. He is quickly becoming a household name and gaining a lot of fame.

Froseth is quite new to the Hollywood scene, but this movie has gained her a lot of recognition. This may be the kickstart of her Hollywood career.

The movie shows the struggle and fear of being a teenager. It sheds light on controversial topics like body image issues and anxiety. The message of the movie is to always be yourself, because you never know what good can come from it. Reviews of the movie have been mixed; it is cheesy and stereotypical at times, but for the most part it includes a lot of issues high schoolers face.

“Sierra Burgess is a Loser” is available to stream on Netflix now.
