‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Brings the Thunder

Danielle Cotton, Staff Writer

“Thor: Ragnarok” was released Friday, Nov. 4. This is the third movie of the Thor series and the 17th of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In “Thor: Ragnarok”, Thor must escape the alien planet Sakaar in time to save Asgard from Hela, the goddess of death, and the impending Ragnarök. In Norse mythology, this refers to a series of future events, including a great battle, foretold to ultimately result in the death of a number of major gods.

“Thor: Ragnarok” is an action-packed movie that includes lighter humor than the previous two Thor films. The movie is connected to the MCU universe from previous movies such as “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” so some parts may be confusing for viewers that didn’t see the previous films.

This movie includes not just the original cast, but features Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / Hulk, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, and Karl Urban as Skurge. Benedict Cumberbatch also reprises his role as Doctor Stephen Strange for a small role and, of course, Stan Lee makes his cameo appearance.

The film starts right away with Thor being chained up and having to battle a fire demon, but also includes humor. The cast has amazing chemistry together and the humor doesn’t fall flat.

This Thor installment is leading up to “Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1”, which will come out May 4, 2018.

Overall, the film is one for the whole family. It is a light-hearted, action-packed movie with a perfectly executed ratio to keep the movie from being categorized as a comedy.
