On Tuesday Sept. 8, the Cross Country team made a run for it in the 5,000 meter finals at Al Lopez Park.

In the race against several other high schools in the Hillsborough County District, the girls and boys teams both gave it their best shot.

Working together and practice are two of the most important things a team can do to become successful.

“Some ways the girls can improve [is by] pushing themselves during practice and making sure they are here every day to get a full weeks’ workout,” said Senior Alyssa Vazquez.

The team put in a valiant effort to win the race but despite their evident effort, the boys got 5th place and the girls got 6th place. They ended with high spirits however, and hope to achieve their goal of getting a higher spot in the next run.

Although there have been a few minor setbacks, the team still remains positive.

“The cross country team [is a] great group of people to be around. [I] couldn’t have asked for better people to call teammates,” said Sophomore Hunter Williams.

Despite the rough start, the team’s future looks promising. With good sportsmanship and hard work, the team can go nowhere but up.
